Other experiences:
I have been blogging for about eight months, at
http://blog.kylebhansen.com,
using the Blogger service. I have applied my basic HTML knowledge to customize
some features of the blog layout.
I am currently a staff writer for the student newspaper, the
Spartan
Daily. I have written over 30 articles for publication on various topics. Here is a slide show I did for the Web site.
I am one of the founders of
STEM:
Students, Technology and Emerging Media, the first (as far as we are aware)
group to focus specifically on teaching students how to use new technology. We
meet weekly for training sessions, guest speakers and workshops. I was one of
the original four students to form the group and am currently serving as the
club treasurer.
My first
Web
site is in connection with my TA 141 class, which is still in progress. The
Web site follows very specific guidelines from the instructor, but is my own
work. To better demonstrate my skills and to give me an area to experiment and
learn, I set up my own site,
kylebhansen.com,
which includes my resume and links to articles I have written for the Spartan
Daily. I also recently moved my blog to this domain.
Going back a little further in time, I was the editor-in-chief of my high school
newspaper for both my junior and senior years. During the summer of 2000 I also
participated in the urban journalism workshop, put on by the Dow Jones Newspaper
Fund. Along with twenty other high school students, I worked with professionals
from the San Jose Mercury News writing articles for a newspaper specifically
aimed at teenagers.
I am also a member of Kappa Tau Alpha, a journalism honor society.
While I admit that I still have a lot to learn, I am passionate about news and
new technology. I am a total "news junkie" and read as much as I can, mostly via
an RSS reader. I am a fast learner and am excited to learn how I can further
apply my skills in the journalism world.
